The Law Library presents the complete text of the Standards for Privately Owned Quarantine Facilities for Ruminants (US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Regulation) (APHIS) (2018 Edition).
Updated as of May 29, 2018

We are amending the regulations for the importation of ruminants into the United States to establish standards for privately owned quarantine facilities. The regulations have authorized the establishment of privately operated quarantine facilities for ruminants, which are subject to approval and oversight by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, but have not provided specific standards for the approval, operation, and oversight of such facilities, with the exception of privately operated quarantine facilities for sheep or goats. Based on recent interest in establishing such facilities for cattle, we are adding standards for privately owned

Auteur : Harinder P.S. Makkar & Christopher S. McSweeney
Genre : Science de la vie
Asaresultofvarioushumanactivities, suchasincreaseinhumanpopulation, decrease in arable land due to soil degradation, urbanization, industrialization and associated increase in the demand for livestock products, dramatic changes are occurring in the global ruminant livestock sector. These changes includeshift inthesize of regional livestock populations and in the types of management and feeding systems under which ruminant livestock are held, and increased demand of a wider range of quality attributes from animal agriculture, not just of the products themselves but also of the methods used in their production. The livestock sector will need to respond to newchallengesofincreasinglivestockproductivitywhileprotectingenvironmentand human health and conservingbiodiversity and natural resources. 8 Nutrition of Grazing Ruminants In Warm Climates - Lee Russell McDowell
Auteur : Lee Russell McDowell
Genre : Ingénierie
From the Preface
The objective of this book is to review the basic knowledge and methodology of feeding grazing ruminants in tropical and semitropical countries. It is hoped this information will be of use to farmers, research specialists, teachers, students, extension specialists, feed manufacturers, and others throughout the world concerned with the nutrition of grazing ruminants. A unique feature is the identification of nutritional limitations of grazing ruminants in the tropics, which will be beneficial for increasing animal production efficiency through the application of improved nutrition. A large number of photographs illustrate nutritional deficiencies and conditions in tropical countries.
This book contains 18 chapters concerned with the nutrition of grazing ruminants. The first chapter deals with the contributions, locations, and various types of ruminants a

9 Nutrition minérale des ruminants - François Meschy
Auteur : François Meschy
Genre : Agriculture

Edition
10 Rinderpest and Peste des Petits Ruminants (Enhanced Edition) - William P. Taylor, Thomas Barrett & Paul-Pierre Pastoret
Auteur : William P. Taylor, Thomas Barrett & Paul-Pierre Pastoret
Genre : Médecine vétérinaire
Rinderpest and Peste des Petits Ruminants tells the story of how, by the year 2010, scientists are set to globally eradicate one of the great historic plagues that has ravaged human livestock for centuries. Descriptions of the disease in Europe date back to the 4th century and it was regularly re-introduced following wars and other civil unrest until late in the 19th century. It was introduced with devastating effect into Africa towards the end of the 19th century and is now widespread across sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Southern Asia. Its causative agent, rinderpest virus, a morbillivirus very closely related to human measles virus, decimates the cattle population along with those of other susceptible domestic ruminants and many wildlife species wherever it is present. The history of Rinderpest including the history of vaccines and vaccinationDetails other Morbillavirus

This comprehensive volume examines the interrelationships of nitrogen and energy nutrition of ruminants. It provides exhaustive coverage of basic concepts, applications, and new research developments.Rumen microbial activity is emphasized. The author, an expert in animal nutrition, discusses new systems of determining dietary energy requirements, the effect of processing feedstuffs, and stress factors. He reviews the availability of nutrients in grains, distillers' grain residues, oilseed meals, molasses, silages, pastures, crop residues, and aquatic plants. Growth stimulants, nutritional management of ruminants in feedlots and pastures, and the value of feed additives are also among the topics considered. The scope of coverage provided by this volume will make it the leading reference for teachers, researchers, consultants, livestock producers, feed manufacturers, and all others who are

Modeling

13 Modeling Nutrient Supply to Ruminants: Frost-Damaged Wheat vs. Normal Wheat (Report) - Asian - Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences
Auteur : Asian - Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences
Genre : Secteurs et professions
INTRODUCTION Wheat has an attractive energy and protein content. It is high in starch (ca. 60%). In western Canada, wheat is the primary cereal grain grown for export and as a main ingredient of foods for human consumption. Wheat usually has a high rumen degradation rate (19%/h) (NRC, 2001) and a high effective degradability (700 g/kg DM). This may result in digestive disorders, bloat and acidosis (Orskov et al., 1979; Givens et al., 1993) when feeding wheat-based concentrate diets. In Canada, frost damage to wheat is common. In year 2004 alone, more than 50% of wheat was frost damaged (called "frozen") in Canada, rendering millions of tonnes of wheat to be unsuitable for human consumption (Vern Racz, Director of Prairie Feed Resource Center, personal contact). There is an urgent need for the feed, crop, and livestock industries to fully assess the nutritive value of the frozen wheat, no

Measuring

14 Measuring Methane Production from Ruminants - Harinder P.S. Makkar & Philip E. Vercoe
Auteur : Harinder P.S. Makkar & Philip E. Vercoe
Genre : Science et nature
The world’s livestock sector is amidst a major transformation, fuelled by high demand for meat and milk, which is likely to double over the next two decades in developing countries. The major driving force behind this demand for livestock products is a combination of population growth, urbanization and income growth, especially in developing countries. The challenge is to enhance animal productivity without adversely affecting the environment. A key to this is reducing methane emissions from ruminants. The major limitation to ruminant production in many tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America, where a large proportion of the global ruminant population is located, is poor nutrition. The productivity of animals is restricted by the low nitrogen and high fibre content of the native grasses and crop residues, which form the basis of the diets in these regions. Animals on these t

This book offers a timely and comprehensive review of essential research on Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus (PPRV), ranging from its historical distribution, molecular epidemiology, genome structure, viral proteins, immunity, viral pathogenesis, clinical and molecular diagnosis to advances in vaccine developments and future challenges. PPRV, a Rinderpest-like virus, is the causative agent of one of the most rapidly emerging viral diseases among domestic small ruminants, and the host spectrum has now been expanded to wild small ruminants and camels. With the global eradication of the first livestock disease, Rinderpest, attention is now turning to repeating the procedure for PPR.

Each of the book’s 13 chapters is dedicated to a specific topic, providing up-to-date literature and discussions by renowned scientists who have made seminal contributions in their respective fields
