1 Richard Dawkins The God Delusion: A Theist Response - Ian McCoy
Auteur : Ian McCoy
Genre : Philosophie
In this interesting piece; the author argues that Richard Dawkins has failed in his attempts to put a good rational argument for atheism.
The professor uses the rather feeble approach of setting up straw men only to dismantle them with great relish. These repeated mischaracterizations of faith do the atheist camp no favours. All it does is betray a vitriolic personal agenda.

It is argued that The God delusion has helped to perpetuate two major modern myths. First that religion and science contradict each other and second that Theists are unthinking drones. If Aristotle, Augustine, Plotinus, Aquinas, Descartes, Kant, Einstein, Collins and thousands of other genius's are unthinking drones -this would make Richard Dawkins intelligence amoeba like.

A rational case for Theism is proposed.

She'd been chosen–not for love–but in vengeance for the wrong he believed her brother had done his sister.

Too late the truth came out-too late to save Sienna's whole world from exploding in pain. Still deep in shock, Sienna found herself married to Alexis–with her mind instinctively fearful of her body's intimate cravings ….

Islam's Response to Contemporary Issues is a lecture delivered at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (London) by Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih IV(rh), the Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Based on Quranic teachings, the Speaker argues that:

* Swords can win territories but not hearts, force can bend heads but not minds;
* The role of women is not of concubines in harems nor a society imprisoned in the four walls of their homes;
* Richer nations provide aid with strings attached and yet the flow of wealth continues to be in the direction of the rich while the poorer sink deeper in the red;
* Religion does not need to be the predominant legislative authority in the political affairs of a state;
* Irrespective of the thawing of the Cold War, the issue of war and peace does not only hang by the thread of superpower relat

14 Did He Hit Her? A Compassionate Christian Response to Abusive Relationships - John Zehring
Auteur : John Zehring
Genre : Famille et relations
Did He Hit Her tells the story of a woman who became entangled in an abusive relationship later in life with a man whose jealous and controlling behavior drained her of her vitality, happiness, and health. Did he hit her? No, not physically, but he hit her with a two-by-four of emotional abuse. Would physical violence have been more abusive than his narcissistic pathological need to control which thrust its jealous hand into her soul and cupped it over her heart, smothered it, denied it breathing space and crushed its joy until it just could not beat another beat? He knew her vulnerability and her need and he exploited it. Emotional abuse is domestic violence.

Around the world, at least one in four women has been or will be physically or sexually abused during her lifetime. Far more will be emotionally abused. Domestic abuse does not care about how much education you have, how

15 Response - Louis Everstine
Auteur : Louis Everstine
Genre : Psychologie
This book traces the development of learning theory in Psychology. Each major theory of the past century is analyzed in detail, and in terms of its evolution from those that preceded it. Theory-building is cumulative, each new idea standing on the shoulders of earlier ones, according to the logical progression of thesis to antithesis to synthesis. On what we learned from the subject of this book, learning, we learned from what was learned before. A classical example of theory developing by trial and error, fits and starts, blind alleys and flashes of insight is the discovery of the DNA molecule. At least three laboratories, in England and America, were closing-in on the answer at the same time, competing with each-other as they reached the finish-line. Each following its governing theory--for instance, Linus Paulings gamble on a triple helix--the lads from Cambridge won the race, and t

This excellent report has been professionally converted for accurate flowing-text e-book format reproduction. Rising tensions across the Taiwan Strait have increased the likelihood that China would use force in a crisis over the status of Taiwan. This paper argues that a coercive campaign is the most likely manner in which China would use force to achieve its political goals. Chinese military doctrine and Taiwan's critical vulnerabilities are examined to assess how China might implement a coercive campaign. In the event US forces are directed to intervene in such a conflict, the paper proposes a concept of operations which aims to deter escalation and to frustrate and exhaust Chinese efforts to isolate and coerce Taiwan.

At the same time, China's domestic politics have reformed from allowing one person high amounts of consolidated policy-making power to more institutionalized consensus-based governance. Professor Dodge further asserted that the prevailing practice that calls for such exclusion should be seen as nothing more than a vestige of the definition of income borrowed long ago from financial accounting (2) and that this definition of income should have no relevance for the income tax. He advocated a new approach to borrowing that accounts for loans by following the cash--resulting in income to the borrower when loan proceeds are received and in deduction to the borrower when the proceeds are repaid. 43 Culture-Based Extreme Response Bias in Surveys Employing Variable Response Items: An Investigation of Response Tendency Among Hispanic-Americans. - Journal of International Business Research
Auteur : Journal of International Business Research
Genre : Économie
ABSTRACT Survey response biases can render results from a number of statistical tests completely spurious, especially those from analyses based on survey data employing Likert-type items. This problem is particularly endemic to international studies and multiple studies over the years have suggested that cultural traits in a society lead to response bias. There is some evidence that response bias is a problem in Latin cultures, such as that dominant in Mexico. Thus far there has been very little work examining whether Hispanics in the United States are subject to survey response bias. This study used a sample of 316 university students, roughly half of whom identified themselves has Hispanic, to test whether extreme response tendency and/or midpoint bias could be shown in that American subpopulation. Results of a Multivariate Analysis of Variance procedure showed that compared to non-His

INTRODUCTION Have U.S. government lawyers, including military attorneys, designed policies with the "goal of separating ... lawyers from their clients" at Guantanamo? (1) Have these government lawyers "worked ... hard to take out the adversary lawyers at Guantanamo?" (2) Are government policies unethically interfering with the responsibilities of defense counsel for the detainees? Are there special difficulties for military defense attorneys?

45 The Organization As a Gendered Entity: A Response to Professor Schultz's the Sanitized Workplace (Response to Vicki Schultz, Yale Law Journal, Vol. 112, P. 2061, 2003) - Columbia Journal of Gender and Law
Auteur : Columbia Journal of Gender and Law
Genre : Droit
In the two decades since the Supreme Court first recognized the legal harm of sex harassment (1) in Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson, (2) the trajectory of sex harassment law and policy continues to be controversial, even among gender scholars who seek to advance workplace equality but disagree about how to accomplish this objective. In this piece, I wish to contribute to the larger debate by offering a response to Professor Vicki Schultz's provocative article, The Sanitized Workplace. (3) Her project builds upon her previous works on sex harassment (4) and the meaning of paid employment (5) to put forth an innovative argument with significant implications in the areas of law, workplace culture, and organizational theory. While I support her endeavor in its larger intent, I write this response to examine her arguments and recommendations critically as well as constructively in an effort to

46 Issues of Method in Analyzing the Policy Response to Emergencies (Response to Richard A. Posner and Adrian Vermuele, Stanford Law Review, Vol. 56, P. 605, 2003) - Stanford Law School
Auteur : Stanford Law School
Genre : Droit
INTRODUCTION Accommodating Emergencies (1) is a superb representative of what I think of as the second generation of responses by legal scholars to the circumstances brought into existence by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The first generation of responses consisted of two elements. Administration shills defended every jot and tittle of the policies adopted by the Bush administration. (2) The shills could not bring themselves to admit that, possibly, the policies were not well-thought through on the level of antiterrorism policy, nor that, possibly, the policies raised not insubstantial constitutional questions because the policies might be overly intrusive on constitutional values of equality and privacy. (3) The administration shills were countered--in the first generation by overly excited civil libertarians, who saw in every new Bush administration policy not merely a t

48 A Passage to India, Colonial Humanism and Recent Postcolonial Theory: A Response to Lidan Lin (Response to Article "the Irony of Colonial Humanism: A Passage to India and the Politics of Posthumanism," Published October 1997) - Ariel

1. Lin's Argument This essay is a response to Lidan Lin's "The Irony of Colonial Humanism: A Passage to India and the Politics of Posthumanism," published in Ariel in October 1997. Lin's founding premise, based on her analysis of the encounter between the novel's Anglo-Indian and native Indian characters, is that "Forster's ideological indeterminacy is primarily rooted in the humanist perception of cultural identity, a perception that tends to reinforce cultural distinctiveness, difference and distance in the arena of intercultural positioning and in so doing provides the epistemic basis for the historical emergence of colonial expansion" (133). Forster, that is to say, depicts Indians as inferior to the British so that he can justify imperial domination.

49 The Disintegration of Intellectual Property? A Classical Liberal Response to a Premature Obituary. (Response to Thomas C. Grey, Yearbook of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy, Vol. 69; Margaret Jane Radin, Columbia Law Review, Vol. 88, P.1667; And Peter S. INTRODUCTION The proper treatment of intellectual property, writ large, is the focal point of a high-stakes dispute that resonates both within and beyond legal circles. Roughly speaking, the protagonists over intellectual property fall into two broad camps. On the one side, there are those, like myself, who think intellectual property forms a coherent subset of a larger body of property law. Starting from this orientation, we constantly urge that the understandings of property law that have developed in connection with the traditional forms of tangible property can be carried over to intangible property even after the rise of modern technologies, such as the radio and the Internet. On the other side of the debate lie those who think that the rules of tangible property often provide little guidance for a sound system of intellectual property rights and should therefore be followed only wi

50 Well, Should They? A Response to 'if People would be Outraged by Their Rulings, Should Judges Care?' (Response to Article by Cass R. Sunstein in This Issue, P. 155) - Stanford Law School
Auteur : Stanford Law School
Genre : Droit
INTRODUCTION In at least some hard cases, the Justices of the United States Supreme Court almost certainly moderate their decisions--or avoid deciding altogether--so as not to provoke the public. Cass Sunstein's characteristically insightful and engaging article is an attempt to justify this practice, and in the process, to define its proper limits. In this, Sunstein follows in the footsteps of Alexander Bickel, whose pathbreaking The Least Dangerous Branch (1) was devoted to the same cause. Their emphases are different, however. The heart of Bickel's book is his account of the "passive virtues," such as the justiciability and vagueness doctrines, that courts use to avoid decision or to rule narrowly where a broad decision might unduly provoke the public. Sunstein's focus is why judges should care about public outrage in the first place.
