2 Production Methodologies, Techniques and Guidelines for Modern Computer Game Testing - Ashley Morgan
Auteur : Ashley Morgan
Genre : Programmation
As development methods in the video games industry have evolved and improved the process, a key phase in the lifecycle of a game’s creation has suffered. With video games becoming more mainstream and pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity more care must be placed on making sure that the end product is of high quality and is not faulty. This is where game testing comes in. This short book looks at several different techniques and processes that can be applied to the testing phase of a video game’s production to make it the process more productive and find more troublesome bugs that can ruin a game when released.Created in conjunction with the dissertation “An Investigation into Production Methods with Quality Assurance and Game Testing” by Ashley Morgan for Staffordshire University.

12 Scrum for Non-Techies - Antonio Montes Orozco
Auteur : Antonio Montes Orozco
Genre : Entreprise et management
Scrum is a teamwork methodology for developing software and technology products. Starting in the 90s, nowadays is still the most used methodology in software development. Used by big companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, BBVA Compass Bank, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft, and many more, it helps in the creation of high-performance teams and group intelligence to fulfill any requested task.
Scrum is starting to expand in other environments that nothing have to do with software: schools, town halls, remodeling companies, strategical development plans for impoverished areas, and other several fields. All existing literature is focused on obtaining a software product, therefore, for non-techies, it might be complicated to hear about software terms such as unit tests, automated regression tests, TDD (Test Driven Development), pair programming or similar terms.

14 Measuring a Changing Nation - Panel on Alternative Census Methodologies
Auteur : Panel on Alternative Census Methodologies
Genre : Sciences sociales
This final report of the Panel on Alternative Census Methodologies provides an assessment of the Census Bureau's plans for the 2000 census as of the time of the 1998 census dress rehearsal. It examines changes in census plans following, and to a modest extent in reaction to, the panel's second interim report, regarding the use of sampling for nonresponse follow-up, construction of the master address file, use of multiple response modes and respondent-friendly questionnaires, and the use of administrative records. It also describes evaluation plans for the census dress rehearsal and plans for data collection and experimentation during the 2000 census. Most of the results from the dress rehearsal were not yet available to the panel, so this report does not offer any suggested changes to 2000 census plans in response to the dress rehearsal.

23 Design Methodologies for Secure Embedded Systems - Alexander Biedermann & Gregor H Molter
Auteur : Alexander Biedermann & Gregor H Molter
Genre : Ingénierie
Embedded systems have been almost invisibly pervading our daily lives for several decades. They facilitate smooth operations in avionics, automotive electronics, or telecommunication. New problems arise by the increasing employment, interconnection, and communication of embedded systems in heterogeneous environments: How secure are these embedded systems against attacks or breakdowns? Therefore, how can embedded systems be designed to be more secure? How can embedded systems autonomically react to threats? Facing these questions, Sorin A. Huss is significantly involved in the exploration of design methodologies for secure embedded systems. This Festschrift is dedicated to him and his research on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

30 Recent Developments in Foresight Methodologies - Maria Giaoutzi & Bartolomeo Sapio
Auteur : Maria Giaoutzi & Bartolomeo Sapio
Genre : Management et direction
Foresight is an area within Futures Studies that focuses on critical thinking concerning long term developments, whether within the public sector or in industry and management, and is something of a sub-section of complexity and network science. This book examines developments in foresight methodologies and relates in its greater part to the work done in the context of the COSTA22 network of the EU on Foresight Methodologies. Foresight is a professional practice that supports significant decisions, and as such it needs to be more assured of its claims to knowledge (methodology). Foresight is practiced across many domains and is not the preserve of specialized ‘futurists’, or indeed of foresight specialists. However, the disciplines of foresight are not well articulated or disseminated across domains, leading to re-inventions and practice that does not make best use of experience in o

33 Methodologies of Legal Research - Mark Van Hoecke
Auteur : Mark Van Hoecke
Genre : Droit
Until quite recently questions about methodology in legal research have been largely confined to understanding the role of doctrinal research as a scholarly discipline. In turn this has involved asking questions not only about coverage but, fundamentally, questions about the identity of the discipline. Is it (mainly) descriptive, hermeneutical, or normative? Should it also be explanatory? Legal scholarship has been torn between, on the one hand, grasping the expanding reality of law and its context, and, on the other, reducing this complex whole to manageable proportions. The purely internal analysis of a legal system, isolated from any societal context, remains an option, and is still seen in the approach of the French academy, but as law aims at ordering society and influencing human behaviour, this approach is felt by many scholars to be insufficient.
Consequently many attempts

41 Corpus Methodologies Explained - Meng Ji, Michael Oakes, Li Defeng & Lidun Hareide
Auteur : Meng Ji, Michael Oakes, Li Defeng & Lidun Hareide
Genre : Arts et disciplines linguistiques
This book introduces the latest advances in Corpus-Based Translation Studies (CBTS), a thriving subfield of Translation Studies which forms an important part of both translator training and empirical translation research. Largely empirical and exploratory, a distinctive feature of CBTS is the development and exploration of quantitative linguistic data in search of useful patterns of variation and change in translation. With the introduction of textual statistics to Translation Studies, CBTS has geared towards a new research direction that is more systematic in the identification of translation patterns; and more explanatory of any linguistic variations identified in translations. The book traces the advances from the advent of language corpora in translation studies, to the new textual dimensions and shift towards a probability-variation model. Such advances made in CBTS have enabled in-

Abstract The idea of archive crucially informs my thesis on images of Islam in South African media and culture. In repositories of authoritative texts the thesis tracked the dynamics that render Islam visible in South Africa. I examined official and parallel archives, finding images of Islam in overlooked and insignificant places such as cookbooks, jokes and stories and, through them, explored interior and resistant meanings. In the thesis I analysed novels, paintings, plays and poetry, and examined the patterns and emphases in the visual repositories on Islam in the South African National Library and the catalogue of the Museum Africa in Johannesburg. I looked also at what is lacking from such archives, conducting what Martin Hail called an 'archaeology of absences'. I pointed to the existence of alternative archives of Islam in South Africa generated through forms of self-organization
