Introduction Acute bronchiolitis (AB) is a frequent infection of the lower respiratory tract which involves in-flammation of the bronchioles. It is a clinical syndrome that affects infants younger than two years of age characterized by rapid and labored respiration with wheezing. Typically, the initial symptoms are those of a viral infection including nasal discharge and cough sometimes associated with low grade fe-ver. The specific symptoms of AB ensue in a few days with tachypnea, dyspnea, and wheezing.

Auteur : Keith C. Meyer & Allan R. Glanville
Genre : Médecine
Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome in Lung Transplantation presents the most current and up-to-date evidence regarding the diagnosis and management of BOS.  In-depth chapters provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of the definition and changing perceptions of the nature of BOS as a clinical and pathologic entity, immune and non-immune mechanisms that have been identified as risk factors for the development of BOS, and interventions that may prove to be clinically useful for the prevention or treatment of BOS.  In addition to outlining the current state of knowledge, each chapter provides the reader with the most current and ongoing research in the field as well as identifies areas where future research is needed. Written by an international group of expert authors, Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome in Lung Transplantation is an important new text

4 Nutritional Status, Breastfeeding, And Evolution of Infants with Acute Viral Bronchiolitis (Clinical Report) - Journal of Health Population and Nutrition
Auteur : Journal of Health Population and Nutrition
Genre : Forme et santé
ABSTRACT Acute viral bronchiolitis is a common respiratory infectious disease of infancy. A prospective study was carried out with 175 infants aged up to six months to evaluate their nutritional and breastfeeding status as possible risk factors for unfavourable evolution of previously-healthy infants from a care hospital. Immunofluorescence test for virus and anthropometric assessment were performed. Outcomes were length of oxygen-use, length of hospital stay, and type of hospital unit needed. Seventy-three percent of the infants were well-nourished, 6% undernourished, 8.6% at a nutritional risk, 10.9% overweight, and 1.7% obese. Eighty-one percent of the undernourished and nutritionally at-risk infants and 72% of the well-nourished, overweight, and obese infants did not receive exclusive breastfeeding. The median length of hospital stay was four days and of oxygen-use was 60 hours. T
